Our company is headquartered in Herbrechtingen between Munich and Stuttgart in the Swabian Alb – the region of doers and tinkerers. Our company embodies this tradition through the continuous innovative spirit of its staff. More than 100 employees give it their all to meet the great trust placed in our level of service.

Our roots date back to 1910, and we have since developed into a sound and innovative medium-sized company. Stahl ranks among the leading companies in its two business areas – belt strap weaving and assembly.

  1. Founding

    1910/1911

    Founding of the ribbon weaving mill of Mr Mack and Mr Sorg, producing products such as straps for upholsteries, laundry binders, girdle and bandage tapes.

  2. Expansion of the range

    1914

    The product range is expanded by belts for zeppelins, carrying straps, linen, hemp, jute, and cotton drink bucket straps, as well paper binding strings and belts for the military.

  3. Founding of the GmbH (limited liability company)

    1924

    A GmbH is founded, 25 people are employed. Roller blind belts are added.

  4. Takeover

    1930

    Mr Carl Stahl takes over the operations. Spindle tapes are added to the production range.

  5. Entry into management

    1941

    Mrs. Hedwig Stahl, the daughter of the company founder Carl Stahl, joins the company and becomes a member of the management.

  6. Innovation pays off

    1950

    With proprietary patents and an efficient production process, especially in roller blind belts, the company assumes a market leading position in the years to come.

  7. Pioneering expansions

    1969

    Expansion of production of assembled safety belts for the automotive industry. To this end, a ready-made, stamping, and development department are founded, as well as a laboratory.

  8. First discussions

    1972

    The management team expands. Dr. Karl Eberhard Stahl becomes a member of the management board and holds talks with all German car companies about our "Stahl-Garant" and "Stahl-Securant" seat belts.

  9. Change in management

    1980

    Mr. Ulrich Stahl (graduate industrial engineer) takes over the management from his brother Dr. Karl Eberhard Stahl and runs the company together with Mrs. Hedwig-Gnann Stahl. Patented development of safety belts, towing belts, children’s seat belts, lashing straps, and special belts for various purposes.

  10. Generation change

    1984

    Mrs. Hedwig Gnann-Stahl goes into well-deserved retirement after 43 years of management. Mr. Ulrich Stahl becomes sole managing director, the generation change into the 3rd generation is successfully completed.

  11. Stahl goes international

    1985

    Safety belts for retrofitting are distributed across the globe through importers and agents.

  12. New patents

    1990

    Development and patenting of belts to meet special requirements in tear resistance, elongation, form, surfaces, and with high-tech materials.

  13. ISO certification

    1995

    The Carl Stahl company becomes the first narrow-belt weaving mill and one of the first textile companies in Germany to be certified following DIN ISO 9001.

  14. Production of air bag belts

    1998

    Development and assembly of belts for car air bags using state-of-the-art machines. The company now has a total of approx. 95 employees.

  15. ISO certification

    2003

    Certification of environmental management following DIN EN ISO 14001

  16. Extension of the production performance

    2004

    Production performance is expanded significantly thanks to investments, especially in the area of safety belt straps. The number of employees grows to 125.

  17. Anniversary

    2005

    The Stahl company celebrates its 75-year anniversary.

  18. Production record

    2008

    50 million metres of belt straps and 12 million assembled parts are produced.

  19. Innovation Prize Ostwürttemberg (East-Württemberg)

    2010

    The company receives the Innovation Prize of the East-Württemberg economic region.

  20. Change in management)

    2013

    Mr. Bernd Ledl (Diplom-Betriebswirt FH ) joins the company and from January 2014 the management of Mr. Ulrich Stahl, who retires after successful years of management.

  21. Growth through patents

    from 2015

    By successfully marketing innovative solutions, mostly patented, Stahl is growing faster than the market.
